Meet The Team
Astroworx Engineering is a Melbourne-based design and fabrication company specialising in advanced astronomical equipment and observatory systems. Founded by Diego Colonnello, Astroworx delivers precision-engineered components, custom telescopes, and complete observatory solutions tailored to the needs of both ground-based and space-based astronomy projects.

Diego
Diego brings a diverse background in advanced manufacturing, electronics, and astronomical instrumentation to his leadership at Astroworx Engineering. Originally from Venezuela, his passion for engineering was sparked during his teenage years while flying and building remote control aircraft, an interest that cultivated his foundational skills in electronics and design. Over the years, Diego has developed a deep understanding of engineering principles, which, when combined with his lifelong interest in astronomy, has positioned Astroworx as a trusted provider of custom telescope systems and observatory solutions.
Dave
David has over 30 years of experience in automation, electrical work, and instrumentation. He has a solid background in electrical and electronics, a computing diploma from Monash, and significant business management experience in manufacturing and engineering. He has worked with Tier 1 global companies. A lifelong astronomy enthusiast, he has embraced modern technology and imaging systems for amateur astronomers. In the past decade, he has also become an advanced amateur radio operator (VK3JL). Today, he focuses on building AstroworX into a leader in astronomical equipment, designed and built with pride in Australia.

Mark
Mark brings over 30 years of experience in building design and architecture to his role at Astroworx Engineering. As a qualified design draftsperson, he has contributed to a diverse range of residential, commercial, and public projects. Mark is also the current President of the Astronomical Society of Victoria (ASV), one of Australia’s largest and most active amateur astronomy organisations. His combined expertise in design and astronomy makes him a vital contributor to the fabrication and assembly of precision-engineered astronomical equipment.
Josh
Josh is a creative and hands-on engineer with a passion for building, 3D printing, and all things Warhammer. Currently studying Engineering, Robotics, and Mechatronics at Swinburne University of Technology, he brings both technical skill and imaginative problem-solving to every project. His role in the company is to develop and refine innovative products, turning ideas into functional, precision-engineered solutions. From prototyping new components to experimenting with robotics, Josh is constantly pushing the boundaries of what the company’s products can achieve.

John
John combines years of hands-on construction experience with a passion for precision and problem-solving. Known for his efficiency, attention to detail, and clever approach to challenges, he ensures every project is completed to the highest standard. Outside of work, John is a dedicated astronomer and active member of the ASV, regularly volunteering to share the night sky with the public. He also serves as the ASV’s property manager, bringing together his technical expertise and love for astronomy to support the society’s projects and facilities.
